The essentials in 30 seconds
- One symptom, one cause: Change only one setting at a time to find out what’s working.
- From the simplest to the most expensive: first check the frame, sound and settings before purchasing equipment.
- Measure after: Note what changed in the next video, not the same day.
Wire Lina — the phone heats up, the sound crackles
Lina posts a tutorial and discovers three problems: the image is dark, the sound crackles and the video does not start. She must address the causes one by one before re-recording everything.
Use the table as a decision tree: start with the row that corresponds to the observed symptom.
Diagnose without dispersing yourself
A video problem rarely has a single cause. The method consists of isolating the symptom, testing the most probable cause and verifying the result on a short extract. If the problem persists, move on to the next cause.
Before spending, check the free causes: phone settings, microphone distance, light source, export format, browser and connection. Most channel starts are resolved with these checks.
| Symptom | Likely causes | Actions |
|---|---|---|
| Dark image or backlit face | Window behind subject, dimly lit room, exposure locked | Place the window facing the subject, add a diffused lamp, touch the screen to expose the face and lock. |
| Low or crackling sound | Microphone too far, gain too high, wind noise, poor grip | Move the microphone closer, lower the gain, record a 10 s test using headphones, use a lavalier microphone if possible. |
| Video that does not start or remains processing | Large file, unsupported format, unstable connection, browser | Export to MP4 H.264, reduce duration or resolution, test another browser and stable connection. |
| Thumbnail refused or blurred | Bad format, text too small, low contrast | Use 1280 × 720 px, short text, sharp subject and strong contrast; Avoid enlarged screenshots. |
| Video viewed but rarely clicked | Vague title, illegible thumbnail, vague promise | Rewrite the title around the search, test a simpler thumbnail, and verify that the video delivers on the promise. |
| Sharp drop in retention at the start | Intro too long, late promise, repetitive build-up | Show the result from the first seconds, announce the benefit and cut out unnecessary introductions. |
| Copyright Claim | Unauthorized music or image, source uncertain | Replace the content concerned, keep the licenses, contest only if the rights are proven. |
| Unable to monetize | Thresholds not reached, rules not respected, country or content not eligible | Check the up-to-date official terms, absence of warnings and eligibility of the content; correct before reapplying. |
