6.6Going further

Goal: choose a direction for progress and practise it on a real project, with the right sources.
Estimated time: 8 min · If you only have 5 min: read “The essentials in 30s” + the diagram.

The essentials in 30 seconds

  • One direction at a time: development, e-commerce, SEO or performance — better to go deep than to skim.
  • Practice before the catalogue: a real project and a measurable deliverable are worth more than a collection of tutorials.
  • Official sources: check the WordPress and plugin documentation rather than forum recipes.

Samir thread — the next direction

Samir has consolidated the studio's sites and knows where he wants to go: deepen WooCommerce and performance, then offer a maintenance contract to other artisans. He has learned to choose one direction at a time and to check information in official sources rather than on forums.

A direction chosen and practised is better than a catalogue of training courses never followed.

Choosing a direction

After this guide, several paths open up: deepen development (hooks, plugins), become solid in e-commerce, progress in SEO and performance, or specialise in maintenance. Choosing them all at once means going deep into none.

Practising on a real project

Each direction must take shape in a project: a test shop, a personal site, the redesign of a non-profit's site. A concrete deliverable — a live site, a performance sheet, a tested purchase journey — is worth more than a certificate without practice.

Checking the sources

WordPress evolves quickly: a forum recipe may be outdated or dangerous. Samir favours the official documentation, release notes and maintained sources, then tests locally before applying.

Common misinterpretation: “you have to learn everything to be credible”. No: credibility comes from a practised direction and concrete results. A solid specialist is better than a generalist who skims everything.
Text version of the diagram (SEO / screen readers / translation): 1) Choose a direction. 2) Practise it on a real project. 3) Produce a measurable deliverable. 4) Check the official sources. Lesson: a practised direction is better than a catalogue.

Ready-to-say script — announcing your direction (25 s)

“My next direction: deepening WooCommerce and performance. I am practising it on a real project and checking the prerequisites in the official documentation.”

Keep this for an interview or a career conversation.

Ready-to-say script — presenting your portfolio (20 s)

“Here are three projects: the need, what I built, the tests carried out and the result. Each sheet shows the approach, not just the screenshot.”

A portfolio tells decisions, not a gallery.
