Red Thread Project — Building excellent customer service — from welcome to loyalty
- Goal: design, for a real or fictional business, a complete customer relations system — from communication fundamentals to satisfaction measurement and loyalty.
- Materials: the Customer Relations cheat sheet below (reflexes, methods and reference points) to keep at hand. Reminder: customers expect listening and consideration as much as an answer.
- Method: one step per level. Produce concrete tools (communication guides, complaint-handling method, indicators) with the red thread "listen, understand, help".

Step 0 · Level 0 — Lay the foundations (L0)
Clarify the strategic stakes of customer relations, the key concepts (satisfaction/loyalty/experience), your customers' expectations and your channels.
Step 1 · Level 1 — Communicate (L1)
Define your welcome, active-listening and positive-language standards; set reference points for phone and written communication (email, chat).
Step 2 · Level 2 — Handle requests (L2)
Structure handling: qualify, answer clearly, meet deadlines and inform proactively; equip yourself (CRM/ticketing, knowledge base/canned responses).
Step 3 · Level 3 — Manage complaints (L3)
Build a complaint-handling method, de-escalation techniques, a way to say no tactfully, and a recovery logic (unhappy → ambassador).
Step 4 · Level 4 — Measure & improve (L4)
Choose your indicators (CSAT/NPS/CES), a concise survey, a map of journey pain points, a continuous-improvement loop (PDCA) and a dashboard.
Step 5 · Level 5 — Omnichannel & loyalty (L5)
Aim for omnichannel consistency, quality self-service (FAQ), sensible use of chatbots/AI (human handover), loyalty/personalization actions, and team management attentive to burnout.
