Capstone project: sales dashboard

Capstone project — Your sales dashboard

⬇️ Download the exercise file (CSV, 60 rows)

Step 0 · Level 0 — Set the stage

Download the sales file, open it in Excel and save it as .xlsx named "Project-Dashboard.xlsx". Rename the sheet "Data". Spot the columns and check the types (dates and amounts aligned as numbers).

Step 1 · Level 1 — Make calculations reliable

Check the Amount column with a formula =Quantity*UnitPrice and compare. Below the table, add: total (SUM), average basket (AVERAGE), best sale (MAX). Put the commission rate (5%) in a dedicated cell and compute each row's commission with an absolute reference.

Step 2 · Level 2 — Enrich and cross-reference

Turn the list into a structured table named "Sales" (Ctrl + T). Add a "Segment" column: =IF(Amount>500;"Big sale";"Standard"). Create a "Rates" sheet (bonus per city) and pull the bonus with XLOOKUP. Color "Big sale" rows green (conditional formatting by formula).

Step 3 · Level 3 — Analyse

Create a "Calculations" sheet with 3 pivots: revenue by city, revenue by month (grouped dates), top sales reps. Add 3 SUMIFS indicators: Paris revenue, number of big sales, Karim's average basket. Secure the Data sheet's City column with a drop-down list.

Step 4 · Level 4 — Industrialise

Redo the import cleanly: Data → Get Data → CSV → Power Query (correct types, recomputed Amount column). Load into the data model and create 2 DAX measures: Total Revenue and Average Basket. Bonus: list the cities with =UNIQUE and their revenue with a spilled formula.

Step 5 · Level 5 — Deliver

Assemble the "Dashboard" sheet: 3 KPI cards at the top (total revenue, average basket, number of sales), a monthly trend line, a bar chart by city, top 5 sales reps. Add 2 slicers (City + Timeline) connected to all pivots. Hide the gridlines, protect the sheet, test "Refresh All".
