Capstone Project — Designing a complete professional site with Elementor, from mockup to going live
- Objective: design a complete, professional WordPress site with Elementor: from getting started (installation, the editor) to building the pages (Flexbox containers, widgets, global identity), through the Pro features (Theme Builder, dynamic templates, forms, e-commerce if needed), to optimization (speed, responsive, SEO, accessibility) and the delivery of a maintainable site.
- Materials: the Elementor cheat sheet below (containers vs widgets, the 3 tabs, globals, Theme Builder, dynamic content, performance, best practices) to keep at hand.
- Method: one stage per level. You get to grips with Elementor (installation, canvas/panel, containers/widgets), build a page (Flexbox, basic widgets, the 3 tabs, responsive), enrich the design (backgrounds, advanced widgets, globals, templates, anchors), move to Pro (Theme Builder, post templates, Pro widgets, effects, pop-ups), harness dynamic content and e-commerce (dynamic content, Loop Builder, WooCommerce, advanced forms, CSS), and finalize quality (performance, structure/responsive, SEO/accessibility, workflow and maintenance).

Stage 0 · Level 0 — Getting started (L0)
Install Elementor on a WordPress (with a light theme such as Hello Elementor), get familiar with the editor (live canvas + panel), and master the basic blocks: containers (structure) and widgets (content).
Stage 1 · Level 1 — Building a page (L1)
Structure with Flexbox containers (direction, alignment, gap), add the basic widgets (heading, text, image, button), set them via the 3 tabs (content/style/advanced), look after consistency (typography, spacing) and adapt to responsive (desktop/tablet/mobile views).
Stage 2 · Level 2 — Design & rich content (L2)
Add backgrounds and overlays (with legibility), advanced widgets (tabs, accordion, carousel, icons — used wisely), define your GLOBAL colors/fonts (identity + maintenance), reuse templates (blocks/pages), and create anchor navigation.
Stage 3 · Level 3 — Elementor Pro & Theme Builder (L3)
Design the HEADER and FOOTER (Theme Builder), the POST/ARCHIVE templates (dynamic), use the Pro widgets (forms with actions, posts, sliders), add motion effects (in moderation) and pop-ups (non-intrusive).
Stage 4 · Level 4 — Dynamic content & e-commerce (L4)
Harness DYNAMIC CONTENT and CUSTOM FIELDS (ACF), create bespoke grids with the LOOP BUILDER, design a shop with the WooCommerce Builder (product page, purchase journey), connect forms to marketing services (GDPR), and resort to custom CSS for advanced cases.
Stage 5 · Level 5 — Performance & best practices (L5)
Optimize SPEED (images first, cache, hosting, Elementor options), keep a CLEAN, responsive STRUCTURE (no over-nesting), look after SEO (content, structure, SEO plugin) and ACCESSIBILITY (alt, contrast, keyboard), and adopt a pro WORKFLOW (reuse, testing, maintenance, client delivery).
Success criteria
- A solid grounding: Elementor installed on WordPress (light theme), the editor mastered (canvas/panel, live visual editing), and the CONTAINERS (structure) / WIDGETS (content) distinction acquired.
- Well-built pages: layout in Flexbox containers (flexible, responsive), widgets set via the 3 tabs, a CONSISTENT identity via global colors/fonts, enriched content (legible backgrounds, advanced widgets used wisely, reused templates, anchors), and a rendering adapted to all three screens (tested).
- Use of the Pro features: header/footer and post templates designed (Theme Builder), forms that LEAD somewhere (actions, email, deliverability tested, GDPR), DYNAMIC content and bespoke grids (Loop Builder, custom fields), careful e-commerce if needed (WooCommerce), effects and pop-ups used in MODERATION and without harming the experience.
- Professional quality: a FAST site (optimized images, cache, a clean structure with no over-nesting), careful RESPONSIVE, well RANKED (content, heading structure, SEO plugin) and ACCESSIBLE (alt, contrast, keyboard navigation), with a mastered WORKFLOW (reuse, testing before delivery) and planned MAINTENANCE (updates, backups, security). The ultimate goal: not "knowing how to click around in Elementor" but delivering a professional site that is fast, accessible and durable.
